Meet July 2025 Pet - Tyra

🎭🐾 Strutting into July like a star… Meet Tyra, our Mayor’s Pet of the Month! 🌟🐶 At just 3.5 years old, Tyra the miniature pinscher mix is already a Herndon icon, equal parts sassy and sweet, with the charm of a diva and the heart of a hero. This little wheelie pup rolls through town like she owns it (and honestly, she kind of does).

Her favorite hangouts? Green Lizard and the Old Town Green, where she greets fans, sniffs freely, and maybe, just maybe, steals a snack from her dog sister’s bowl when no one’s looking.

If Tyra had a job? Actress, of course. 🎬 She shined in a community production of Legally Blonde last year and LOVED the spotlight. Elle Woods would be proud.

Her celebrity dream dinner guest? Dolly Parton, obviously. Two Southern queens with big hair (or ears) and even bigger hearts? Yes, please.

Tyra’s superpower? Endless energy and contagious joy. And while her biggest “oops” is sometimes flipping herself over in her wheels while getting really into a new smell, she always bounces right back—because nothing keeps this star down. Herndon is a happier, brighter, and way more fabulous place because of Tyra.

💙 Give her some love and if you see her rolling by this month—make sure to wave (and maybe get her autograph).

Pet Mayor About Town

National Parks and Recreation Month; Disability Pride Month

🌳🛞🐾 It’s National Parks & Recreation Month—and Tyra’s ready to roll!

As a proud wheelie pup and July’s Mayor’s Pet of the Month, Tyra wants everyone to know that Herndon’s outdoor spaces are for everyone. With her front wheels in motion and her spirit full of joy, she cruises the W&OD Trail like a pro—and always makes time to stop at Green Lizard for a sniff and a latte (well, her human gets the latte ☕).

Let’s keep making our parks accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for every body.

Next Stop Theatre

🎭🐾 From spotlight to stage door… Tyra is back in her element!

As July’s Mayor’s Pet of the Month, Tyra stopped by NextStop Theatre to reconnect with one of her fellow Legally Blonde castmates (once a star, always a star 💅). She also got to meet the incredible teens and families participating in the Descendants workshop, and gave notes on the upcoming Teen Summer Intensive Show "Alice by Heart".

And yes—she had thoughts on the upcoming season… but only shared them in diva barks. 🎬💜

Supporting local arts means supporting the creativity and confidence of all ages—and Tyra is paws-itively proud to be part of Herndon’s thriving theatre scene!

Sunset Business Park Adventures

☀️🐕🛍️ Tyra’s favorite summer hangout? Sunset Business Park, paws down.

This month’s Mayor’s Pet of the Month has been making the rounds:
👉 Morning coffee at Weird Brothers (extra puppuccino, please)
👉 Treasure hunting at N'used
👉 And a stylish stop at Great Wolf Gear, where they recognized her from her Subaru print ad! (Yes, Tyra has modeling credits. She’s that girl.)

Local businesses are what make Herndon shine—and Tyra’s tail is wagging for every single one. 🐾💙

Faith, Community and Love

⛪🐾 Faith, kindness, and community care—Tyra sees it all up close.

Her mom, K, is a clergy member at the historic Herndon Baptist Church right on Elden Street across from Anita’s—where generations have come together to lift up their neighbors, support those in need, and serve with open hearts.

Tyra knows firsthand the power of compassion and connection and she loves visiting the church (especially when there are extra pets involved).

Here’s to the faith-based organizations across Herndon that remind us what community is really about. 💙
